An Eastern Sierra Thanksgiving

I took the opportunity of a long Thanksgiving weekend to spend the time in the Mammoth area. The family skied/snowboarded and I did what I do. I spent Thanksgiving morning at Hot Creek. What a beautiful place.

I fished the slots between the weed beds during the mid-morning baetis hatch. The fish in this canyon are smart and when hooked immediately head for the weeds, so you have to be quick. I lost a couple of bigger fish to the weeds and landed a few of the smaller models that were sipping mayflies off of the surface along the back bank.

The next morning I drove down to Bishop to fish with a friend. We hit the Lower Owens at noon and had a steady pick on fish the whole afternoon on a variety of nymphs. The beatis hatch was much slower down here. Donny worked the water while we discussed the important things in life: cameras, filters, lenses, flies, fly rods, etc.

On the way into Bishop to eat dinner, the sunset and clouds proved too tempting so I stopped and snapped a few photos of the coming storm and the sunset

Dinner at Amigos was awesome as usual. Until next time.
